Trade Negotiations and Development for West Africa - EPAs and the WTO

Convened by ILEAP and the Economic Commission for West African States (ECOWAS)
17-18 October 2005

From 17-18 October 2005, 70 participants met in Cotonou, Benin to address the trade concerns of West Africa in a range of areas of significance to the region and to consider elements of a trade-centric outcome from trade negotiations at the WTO and EPAs. Delegates met in Plenary and in three working groups: Development, Trade in Goods, and Trade Facilitation & Services. The workshop, which was held immediately prior to meetings of both senior regional trade officials and ministers of trade, helped to inform the development of regional positions in advance of the December 2005 WTO Hong Kong Ministerial Conference.
